Air Guitar World Championships 2012 - Make Air, Not War

Pictures from the Air Guitar World Championships, held each year in my awesome birth town of Oulu, Finland!

Needless to say, I'm a great fan of this event. Words cannot describe the epicness of this year, either. So, once again, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. This years winner was Justin "Nordic Thunder" Howard - he's the one with the long hair and a very Scandinavian-mythological leather attire.

The Finnish contestant, Jaakko "The Colossal" Härkönen was 5th this year
Bryan "Telerockbies" Antoine from Belgium
Estonia's Andro "The Void" Urb came as 4th - I think he deserved a higher rank, though

National Ballet visiting

The National Ballet of Finland offered a free sample-show in my city. The pictures can speak for themselves, it was pretty special.

Old prison city, revisited

(If you are impatient, scroll down for pictures :)
As many of my friends know, I have a great passion for film photography, which is what I started with back in my university. I had fantastic photography teachers who encouraged / kicked us into the darkroom to experiment, try out different things, and I truly miss that.

I only shot a few filmrolls when I lived in Israel - mainly because my camera is an old, highly unreliable Cosina, and it destroyed at least one or two films by jamming them - but I think some of these pictures that survived are worth putting out here into the interwebs. This is all on 35 mm b&w film (Kodak T-Max, of course).
And mind you, I want to build my own darkroom, just because of the prices of developing film in the shops...

These pictures feature the old city of Akko, Akka or the Acre, depending on whether you speak Arabic, Hebrew or English. The city operated as a notorious prison city back in the 19th century, and a lot of the city walls are from that era. Now it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Back in the days you could enter the city either via the seagate or the landgate; the landgate is still the main entrance to this walled, secluded, curious old part of Akko. The wall also separates the old city from the sea of Akko which you can see in the first picture. I swear, the sea changed colour every time I travelled to Akko. You can see a few digital pictures of Akko (and the sea is featured) in my web-portfolio:

Anyway, enjoy these pictures, if you please. Hopefully I can travel to Israel soon and take a lot of film with me...

The shoreline; this view is familiar to anyone who travels to Akko, as it's the first thing you see by the landgate to the city.

In the basar alley

When you enter this coffeeshop, you tend to focus first on how much stuff there is. Then you notice that the owner is sitting somewhere in the back, ready to make you some freshly brewed coffee. I found him very different in character to most basar shop owners.

Boys playing football

Elderly gentlemen sitting and talking... and also, for some reason, a motorcycle.

A boy crossed my path.

A boy with a spook mask also crossed my path.

And finally, a fountain in the Garden of Ridvan, near Akko.
